XMPP server

What is xmpp?

XMPP is a very simple text transfer protocol. It is like email, any email provider can talk to another because of federation, the way they communicate is standardized.

Why I wanted to make the server

I am fascinated by the technology of anonymous internet tech, or the 'dark net' such as I2P and Tor. I believe that i2p has a lot of potential, but due to the barrier of entry of having to install a new application for something that is occasionally demonized, it is hard for it to grow. Not only that, but I want to make the server completely reachable by both i2p and the regular internet.

what does the server do?

I am working on making the server both usable and federated over i2p. The easiest way to make the server work would just to have it be a regular XMPP server, but have an option for people to log in to it over i2p. That is not enough for me however, I want it to be able to both allow logins and be federated over i2p and clearnet. What that means is, a user can send messages to other servers over i2p and clearnet, no matter what they use to connect.

Server status

Currently the server is still under construction. A couple limitations due to budget are no file uploads, calling functionality is basically impossible between i2p and clearnet users, third party solutions would be needed.
